Flood Watch issued May 21 at 11:32AM CDT until May 21 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Much of central Iowa. * WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Rainfall of 3 to 5 inches with isolated higher amounts fell over parts of central Iowa last night into this morning and led to flash flooding in some areas. Additional round of storms is expected this afternoon that may cause new flash flooding or prolong or renew flash flooding in areas that experienced flash flooding earlier. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued. Flood Warning issued May 21 at 11:16AM CDT until May 21 at 11:15PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. * WHERE...Portions of central, north central, and northeast Iowa, including the following counties, in central Iowa, Grundy, Hardin, Jasper, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Story and Tama. In north central Iowa, Butler and Franklin. In northeast Iowa, Black Hawk and Bremer. * WHEN...Until 1115 PM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1115 AM CDT, Emergency management reported continued flooding in the warned area. Flooding is already occurring. Between 5 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. Additional showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon which may lead to renewed or additional flooding. For the latest river and stream observations and forecasts refer to weather.gov/desmoines/water. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
