Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued July 4 at 2:21PM EDT until July 4 at 10:00PM EDT by NWS Charleston WV THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 457 IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN WEST VIRGINIA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 12 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL WEST VIRGINIA BRAXTON NICHOLAS TAYLOR WEBSTER IN NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA BARBOUR HARRISON LEWIS POCAHONTAS RANDOLPH UPSHUR IN SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA FAYETTE RALEIGH THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF BECKLEY, BELINGTON, BRIDGEPORT, BUCKHANNON, BURNSVILLE, CLARKSBURG, COWEN, CRAIGSVILLE, ELKINS, FAYETTEVILLE, GASSAWAY, GRAFTON, HOLLY RIVER STATE PARK, MARLINTON, OAK HILL, PHILIPPI, RICHWOOD, SUMMERSVILLE, SUTTON, WEBSTER SPRINGS, AND WESTON.

Special Weather Statement issued July 4 at 4:11PM EDT by NWS Charleston WV At 411 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Elkins to 12 miles south of Hendricks to 14 miles west of Upper Tract. Movement was northeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Elkins, Beverly, Harman, Bowden, and Dryfork. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service office in Charleston West Virginia. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM EDT for northeastern West Virginia.
